Behind-the-Scenes Tours of the Opera Centre
Go behind the scenes at the Opera Centre in Surry Hills, the creative heart of Opera Australia, on Saturday 12 September as part of the Sydney Open Series.
Originally constructed in the 1930s, the heritage-listed Art Deco building is where Australia’s largest performing arts company brings opera to life.
The building supports hundreds of artists, craftspeople and creatives each year, playing a vital role in the development of mainstage productions, new works and national tours.
This is a rare opportunity to explore areas not usually open to the public, including rehearsal rooms, design studios, costume and production workshops, and discover how singers, musicians, directors and designers collaborate to create opera for stages around the country.
Tours will be led by Opera Australia staff, offering unique insights into the stories and creativity that power one of the world's most iconic art forms.
Please note this tour is not accessible for people using wheelchairs or walkers as there are stairs and uneven surfaces.
