Make your own love token

Join us for a hands-on activity that asks you to think about the strong bonds that remain between loved ones even when migration keeps people apart.

Different cultures have different rituals and traditions when saying goodbye. Love tokens are handmade coins that represent the heartbreak of convicts being separated from family and friends. Given to loved ones before they were transported to begin their sentence, each love token was different and created by the convict themselves or created by a skilled craftsperson.

In this activity, you’ll make your own love token inspired by someone special who you’re no longer able to see but think of often.

All materials will be provided.
