Unearthing Community-Engaged Research in Museums and Archives

History is all about understanding the people and societies that came before us. How can engaging with people today help us understand the past?

Whether you’re studying history or archaeology, community engagement can be one of the most eye-opening and rewarding methods of research.

Join us for a specialist panel discussion to learn about how First Nations community engagement, creative collaborations and oral history practice can uncover new perspectives on and understandings of our past.

The evening will continue with light refreshments and an opportunity to meet the speakers and ask them about their stories. You will also be granted after-hours access to the Unearthed exhibition at the Museum of Sydney.

Panellists

Creative collaborations: Tess Allas, First Nations Curator, Museums of History NSW

Oral histories: Anna Cossu, Curator, Museums of History NSW

First Nations community engagement: Jordan Mlotkowski, Access Advisor, First Nations Community Access to Archives project, Museums of History NSW

Panel moderated by Dr Aaron de Souza, Research Manager, Museums of History NSW.
