Teaching primary history through objects

This NESA Accredited professional development has simple but effective strategies to integrate object-based learning into Primary History lessons – complementing and extending your classroom practice.

This course is aimed at pre-service and classroom teachers, librarians or any staff who are involved in the teaching of History within a primary school setting.

What’s covered in the session?

  • experts in museum education will discuss the importance of objects and demonstrate how to build narratives from objects
  • participants will be taken through a range of successful object-based learning strategies
  • best practice approaches for integrating perspectives on First Nations Histories and Cultures

All attendees will be encouraged to bring to the session an object that they have used or are planning to use in their classroom, to provide a springboard for discussion and an opportunity to consider new approaches.

Accreditation Information
This course will contribute 2 hours of NESA Accredited PD in the priority area of Delivery and assessment of NSW Curriculum addressing standard descriptors 2.1.2, 3.4.2 and 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
