Archives behind the scenes - deceased estate files

In this episode of Archives Behind the Scenes, Martyn shows us the treasure trove of information that you can find in deceased estate files.

These files, dating from the 1880s to late 1950s, were created when death duty was payable in NSW and are a financial record of someone's estate when they died. In order to establish how much Death Duty was payable the estate had to be valued - these files are exactly that, a list and enumeration of someone's real estate, their personal belongings and other personal estate.
