Richard Stringer’s architectural photographs, 1968–2003

This portfolio contains 55 photo prints taken by architectural photographer Richard Stringer, dating from 1968 to 2003, documenting significant Australian domestic buildings. They depict interiors, exteriors and a large amount of architectural detail of dwellings in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.

The photo prints were scanned from 5x4-inch negatives and printed by Stringer on A4 Canson Infinity Rag Photographique 310gsm. Each image includes details of the place and date of the original photograph, image file number and year of printing (2015). Each image is also individually signed by Stringer.

Richard Stringer, born in Melbourne in 1936, came to photography through his training and practice as an architect. He moved to Brisbane in 1963, and in 1967 established a photographic business, recording historic buildings and gardens throughout Australia using large-format press cameras. These cameras enabled him to capture a lot of detail and to control perspective. Stringer’s photographs are held in state and national collections.
